Cathay Pacific The Wing, First Class Lounge Review: Newly Reopened First Class Lounge at Hong Kong Airport
Location: Terminal 1 East, near gates 1-4 at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).
Opening hours: Daily from 5:30am until the final departure of the day.
Access: Cathay Pacific Diamond members or First Class passengers. oneworld Emerald access is expected to be available later.
Cathay Pacific The Wing, First Class Lounge reopened after its redesign on April 22, 2026. It is Cathay Pacific's flagship first class lounge in Hong Kong, with the redesign developed in collaboration with Studioilse.
The most memorable part of this visit was not flashiness, but a composed sense of ease. Although the lounge sits in the middle of a busy airport, the space feels much quieter, and the Dining Room is closer to a small restaurant than a typical lounge. Menu service is divided into breakfast from opening until 11:00am and lunch and dinner from 11:00am onward.
Entrance and first impression
The Wing, First Class Lounge entrance is located where you can see the terminal's high ceiling and glass structure. The signage is simple, and as you move further inside, timber finishes and low lighting make the atmosphere calmer. The Dining Room entrance also appears early in the flow, and once you pass through the doors, it feels as if a separate restaurant has been placed inside the lounge.
Before 11:00am: breakfast menu
In the morning, the menu focuses on food that is easy to enjoy before a flight. The menu included hot breakfast dishes, lighter wellness-style options, fruit and drinks. Before a long-haul flight, it is a comfortable way to start without eating too heavily, and if your transit time is long enough, I would recommend sitting down in the Dining Room and taking it slowly.
Dining Room review: lunch and dinner menu after 11:00am
After 11:00am, the mood of the menu changes clearly. Monthly specials, Mott 32-style Chinese dishes, signature noodles, main courses, cheese and desserts make the selection much broader. It is easy to lower expectations for lounge food, but here both the menu structure and plating feel much closer to a restaurant.
I especially liked the proper plated dishes listed on the menu as Tiger prawn "mapo tofu", Grilled Australian wagyu hanger steak, Iberico char siu with honeyed soy beans and Braised New Zealand lamb shoulder with roasted tomatoes. If you are departing Hong Kong on a long-haul flight, having a proper meal here before boarding is a very convincing choice.
Dining Room desserts
The finishing desserts were all ordered and eaten in the Dining Room. On the menu, they were listed as Hazelnut praline choux with warm chocolate sauce, Mango, sago and pomelo dessert with nata de coco, and Ice cream, with Raspberry sorbet selected. The hazelnut praline choux was rich and sweet, the mango, sago and pomelo dessert felt bright in a very Hong Kong way, and the raspberry sorbet was a good palate cleanser after a longer meal.
Atrium and Pantry
Outside the Dining Room, the Atrium and Pantry continue through the lounge. Natural light comes in from the high ceiling, while plants and timber partitions gently divide the view. The Pantry has drinks, fruit, snacks, pastries, hot dishes, cheese and charcuterie, so for a short connection this area alone can be enough.
The wayfinding is also clear. Inside the lounge, showers, the Retreat and Bureau spaces are signposted, along with the direction to the departure gates, making it convenient for dining, resting and working in one place.
Verdict
Overall, Cathay Pacific The Wing, First Class Lounge feels less like something entirely new and more like a flagship that has been carefully refined. The space is spacious and calm, the Dining Room is clearly organized by time of day, and the Pantry remains useful for shorter stays. If you have access through Cathay Pacific First Class or an eligible status, this is a lounge that gives you a good reason to arrive at Hong Kong airport a little early.
